When one thinks of grand opera, one might envision elaborate specticals, people singing in a foreign language, convoluted dramatic plots, and an audience dressed in evening wear. For me, however, it has always been about the melody. It takes some sorting-out, but amongst the puffery and confusion, there are some of the most beautiful and poinient melodies given to man. ..
